Note: Charge-off rate for the year is defined as the bad debts written off during the year divided by the average rollover balance for the same year. As monthly charge-off rates tend to be too volatile, we have chosen to publish quarterly charge-off rates instead. However, there can still be seasonal variations. The quarterly charge-off rate is calculated by annualising the ratio obtained from dividing the bad debts written off for the quarter by the average rollover balance for the same quarter.
As part of MAS’ efforts to streamline data collection and align reporting requirements, we will be restating the published credit card statistics using data collected pursuant to MAS Notice 759. The publication frequency will also be changed from monthly to quarterly to align with the collection frequency of MAS Notice 759. The changes will take effect from Aug 2019. The last monthly data point (June 2019) will be published in July 2019. Subsequently, the quarterly data points will be published in Aug 2019, with the series being restated from Q4 2014. Please contact us at webmaster@mas.gov.sg if you have any queries.
